Multi-family Houses in Hamburg

The urban planning project is for a new city quarter consisting of two residential buildings in the central Hamburg district of St. Georg. In terms of urban development, the complex is surrounded by inner-city perimeter block development. The perimeter block development is partially broken up by the paddock compound and leads into a park-like courtyard. The courtyard is surrounded partly by the new building and partly by the neighbouring buildings. The result is an interplay of block edges, rows and point houses. The compound is accessible from both Koppel and Alsterwiete.

The quarter is connected underground by a shared, two-storey underground car park. The green area itself can also be used as a common area for all residents. The basement is made of exposed masonry. The five standard storeys above are plastered white. The buildings are crowned with a staggered floor. The façade blends in well between the existing facades of the paddock compound, as exposed brickwork and light-plastered facades dominate the street and the entire neighbourhood.

Another highlight of the façade facing the paddock is a pair of clinker brick bands and a glass façade extending over all floors in the stairwell, from which the entrance is legible.

The project was built to accompany the Royal Meridien Hotel as compensation area for a residential building on the hotel property.
