Le Méridien Hamburg, 2003

Hotel an der Alster

The Hotel Le Méridien Hamburg is located on the site of the former EDEKA administration building and a neighbouring residential building at Alster 52–56 in Hamburg. The five-star hotel offers 243 rooms, 31 junior suites, nine 2-module suites, two 4-module suites, a conference area, a fitness centre and underground parking. The rooms are planned so as to offer views of the Alster and the Hofgarten.

The façade of the building is clad with horizontal glass slats mounted on thermal insulation and is divided into three zones that differ in materials and colours. A special feature is the arrangement of the panoramic elevator with its curved glass façade, which marks the entrance of the hotel and forms a vertical incision in the façade. The restaurant on the top floor offers a nearly reflection-free view over the Outer Alster thanks to the glazing that is slanted as with windows in airport towers.
