Mount Taishan Hotel, 2007
Beijing Hotel and Convention Centre
The name of the Mount Taishan Hotel is derived from Mount Tai Shan, located in the Chinese province of Shandong and is revered as sacred in Daoism. The hotel is located in the Haidan district, northwest of Beijing. The district is a centre for universities and the IT industry. For example, a hotel with a large conference centre and meeting area was to be built on behalf of the Bavarian partner province of Shandong.
A horizontal, four-storey building houses a conference centre, hotel lobby, a spa with thermal bath and a roof terrace with gastronomy services. This structure serves as a base for the other 23 floors of the oval tower, which houses the hotel rooms, suites as well as another roof terrace with a bar. To the southwest, the property extends further into a park with an artificial lake. The individual garden villas are freely arranged in this green area.
In terms of materiality, the two zones can be read in a range of ambiences from ‘busy’ to ‘calm’. For example, there is much steel and glass in the hotel and conference building, but also natural materials like wood in the garden villas. The complex is designed according to the basic principles of Fengshui.
